YAZMIN ESPINO

A photographer.

I am a Latina photographer with over 11 years of experience, born and raised in the complex and often overlooked city of San Bernardino, CA. Photography began as an escape from my reality, but over time, it became a way to better understand life, both my own and the lives of the people around me. I work with both digital and film, and I have hands-on experience using a darkroom to process black and white film. I approach each image with purpose, patience, and a focus on emotions rather than perfection.​

I catch brief glimpses that others frequently overlook, such as the quiet conversation between friends or strangers, the pause before a smile, or the way light falls on a face. I create candid pictures under my brand, yasesp.jpg, with
an emphasis on emotion above appearance. To be able to help my subjects to feel comfortable and give them the chance to be completely themselves in front of the camera, I spend time getting to know them more. By taking a documentary-style approach to portraiture, I aim to capture something genuine, unguarded, and vulnerable that shows personality and human connection.​
